Highlights

Building peace with a paintbrush

On September 20, the CPA hosted the Korea Art Forum exhibit reception in the Grebel Gallery for "A New Peace and a Peaceful Land." At the reception guests heard from MCC's UN Office Director Doug Hosteter and the exhibit's curator Heng-Gil Han. Following introductions and reflections on the exhibit, Han led guests on a comprehensive tour of the art pieces created by North and South Korean, Chinese, and American artists. Waterloo Region celebrates Peace Week!

From September 17-22 Waterloo Region celebrated Peace Week 2018! Peace Week started when Conrad Grebel celebrated the week surrounding the International Day of Peace on September 21, and since then they have invited the Waterloo community to participate. During Peace Week there were 13 events in the region to celebrate, including yoga, a book launch, a pow wow, and a theatre performance. For more information about the events that were held, visit the Peace Week website.

Farewells and new faces

This month we said goodbye to CPA Coordinator Michelle Jackett as she goes on parental leave until October 2019. We'll miss having her with us in the CPA, but are excited for this new chapter in her life. Congratulations Michelle!

In September the CPA also welcomed a couple of new staff members. Hannah Hill joined the CPA as the new Epp Peace Incubator Fellow and Grace Wright has returned for another co-op term in her new role as the Communications and Research Assistant.

SheLeads joins the Epp Peace Incubator
This month, the CPA welcomed SheLeads as its newest Epp Peace Incubator participant, a social enterprise that provides software tailored to help non-profits assess the growth and impact of their work.

SheLeads was founded by PACS alumna Cassie Myers, who developed the business while in the St.Paul's GreenHouse program. Since then, Cassie has been active in Waterloo's social innovation scene, from winning Velocity pitch competitions, to receiving mentorship from leaders in our innovation ecosystem. We look forward to having SheLeads as an Incubator participant and a part of the CPA community.
