USDA is requesting applications for the 2501 Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers and Veteran Farmers and Ranchers grant program. Deadline Aug 15. Organic Farming Research Foundation is accepting letters of intent for research projects on organic farming and food systems. Deadline Aug 16 NEW Virginia Land Conservation Foundation is accepting grant applications for land acquisitions and protections, including farmland and forest preservation. Deadline Aug 29 Wells Fargo Regional Foundation is supporting neighborhood planning. Deadline Aug 30.  Organic Valley Farmers is accepting applications for the Farmers Advocating for Organic grant. Deadline Sept 1 USDA Food and Nutrition Services is requesting applications for the Participation Assistance for Farmers and Farmers' Markets Grants (increasing SNAP participation at markets). Congress is currently considering the Child Nutrition Act Reauthorization (CNR), which provides opportunity to open new markets for local food in schools. Two bipartisan bills supporting farm to school work have been introduced for the inclusion in the CNR: The Farm to School Act of 2019 and the Kids Eat Local Act.
