Reflections from our 5th anniversary celebration

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of celebrating the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement's 5th anniversary! We were joined by community members, Centre for Peace Advancement participants and partners, and old and new friends alike! Thank you for joining us on the International Day of Peace, and we look forward to continue forging connections in peacebuilding in the years to come.

Highlights

Another successful Peace Week in Waterloo Region!

Peace Week 2019 was our biggest yet with 14 events listed on our community calendar all across Waterloo Region! Events ranged from rallies to lectures,  charity walks to workshops, yoga to genealogy!

During Peace Week, the University of Waterloo hosted the first stop for the Canadian "Get Free" Tour with HeForShe! Students, staff, and faculty from across campus came out to celebrate UWaterloo's successes with meeting their gender equity targets set in 2015, and to challenge our community to continue making significant strides towards gender equity.

New names and faces in the Epp Peace Incubator

AccessMate joined the Epp Peace Incubator program at the beginning of September! AccessMate works with remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) to create mapping software for those with mobility concerns, with the goal of creating more accessible cities.

Incubator participant SheLeads rebranded as Lunaria!  Lunaria provides honest and rewarding suggestions for organizations, through actionable reporting and evaluations. Read more about the significance behind the name, "Lunaria," and details about upcoming changes here.

Welcome, AccessMate and congratulations, Lunaria!

PeaceTech Living-Learning Community goes live!

September 2019 marked the launch of the first PeaceTech Living-Learning Community (LLC) at Grebel! We are very excited to have a dedicated community for students to explore ideas, learn from one another, and focus on how to make tech for good.

Students involved with the PeaceTech LLC hail from many different faculties and stages in their degree, all while being immersed in the Grebel community. With the launch of the LLC, we have also launched our PeaceTech blog. The blog space will be devoted to sharing events and opportunities in the PeaceTech sphere, while also sharing reflections on related topics. Check out our most recent blog post

Celebrating generosity and peace innovation

Conrad Grebel hosted a donor dinner in the lead-up to the Centre for Peace Advancement's 5th anniversary celebration! An evening of connection, fun, and gratitude, the program also featured a reflection from Director Paul Heidebrecht on the last five years of catalyzing collaboration.

Alongside Paul's talk, attendees had the pleasure of watching the Centre for Peace Advancement's history graphically recorded by first-year Grebelite Maya Morton Ninomiya.
Click here for a high-resolution view of Maya's work.

Thank you to all of our donors and community partners for your continued support!

Saying "See you around!" to Amy Zavitz

As the Centre for Peace Advancement Coordinator, Amy Zavitz has been a crucial part of our journey over the past year while Michelle Jackett has been on maternity leave. We know that our participants and partners have appreciated her vision for peace, mastery of detail and positive spirit, and she has become a trusted colleague and friend to many.

We are looking forward to working with Amy in new ways as she starts her new role as Kindred Credit Union's Community Engagement Specialist!
