Happy Friday! Great to see folks at the OFN conference! Some good food system stuff including insightful panel on Equitable Food Oriented Development (EFOD) and an inspiring lunch plenary acceptance speech by OFN Justice Award winner Chris Bradshaw of DC's Dreaming Out Loud (DOL). Capital Impact nominated DOL for its grassroots food justice work rebuilding urban, community-based food systems through social enterprise. Cheers!
The HEAL Alliance is seeking support for the No Shame at School Act. Earlier this year Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN-5) and Sen.Tina Smith (D-MN) introduced legislation that would provide protections for students and their families with school lunch debt. The No Shame at School Act allows school districts to be retroactively reimbursed for unpaid lunch fees and bars collection agencies from seeking unpaid lunch fees.
