Celebrating Katie Gingerich as a voice of women for peace

On May 8th, 2021, Founder and Executive Director of The Ripple Effect Education, Katie Gingerich, was recognized as an outstanding representation of the incredible peace work of Canadian women by the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace (VOW). Gingerich received the 2021 Kim PhĂºc Award for Youth Peace Leadership for her work supporting youth through conflict resolution.

UWaterloo Map the System team goes global

On May 7th, 2021, eight teams of students from across Canada competed in the Map the System Canadian Finals for the chance to present their research on a global stage. For their incredible presentation and systematic investigation of the precarious foreign labour conditions in Malaysian palm oil plantations, Leah Feor, Ewomazino Iyanu Oluwa Odhigbo and Muhammed Ahsanur Rahim will be representing the University of Waterloo as one of four Canadian teams at the Map the System Global Finals on June 11th, 2021.

Local youth innovate for peace in the Region of Waterloo

The Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement, The Ripple Effect Education (TREE) and Kindred Credit Union, gathered virtually on May 5th, 2021 to celebrate the learning and impact of this year's Peace Innovators Scholarship and Mentoring Program participants. Members of the community, mentors, family and friends learned about the work that the 2020-2021 cohort of students have undertaken to tackle social problems in their community.

Systems Week 2021
Register to participate in a wide variety of activities from June 7th to 11th, 2021. Hosted by the Skoll Foundation and Oxford's SaĂ¯d Business School, Systems Week programming strives to convene thinkers from around the world in collaboration to create lasting systemic change. See the agenda for more information, and don't forget to convert all posted times from BST to EST.

Map the System global finals
Register for Systems Week 2021 to attend the Map the System global finals on June 11th, 2021 from 9:00 - 11:30 am (EST). Cheer on Canadian representatives from UWaterloo, Laurier, the University of Alberta, and the University of British Columbia as they compete against top teams from around the world in this final stage of the 2021 competition.

Participate in the Concept $5k Pitch Competition
Spring 2021 applications are now open for Concept's $5k Pitch Competition, plus eligible teams that focus on health are eligible for an additional $5k on top of the original grant. Applications close on June 20th, 2021 at 12:00 pm (EST).
