In February, loyal members and partners gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the new space--a visible investment in Apopka's future. Self-Help is humbled and honored to continue the mission-focused legacy of the original credit union, Community Trust Federal CU, which merged with the Self-Help family in 2016. See our video below on Community Trust Federal's remarkable history of service to farmworkers and other low-income families, featuring Sister Ann Kendrick. | | | Community Trust Federal Credit Union: A Sister Act | | Pineville Branch Moves to Charlotte | | In late April, we're moving our Pineville branch office to 1065 Providence Road in Charlotte. According to Kaiser Permanente, during school days children consume as many as half of their daily calories at school. Recently a Self-Help borrower, A Safe Place Childcare, received recognition for extraordinary performance in implementing the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). A Safe Place uses its outdoor area as a classroom, including child-friendly gardens. According to the owner, Kimberly Shaw, "Our children plant their own food, they harvest it and are part of its preparation. As a result, they eat it." They also make fresh food available to staff and the families they serve. | | Supporting sustainability: A Self-Help loan helped Blue Ridge Biofuels expand into a larger facility in Catawba County, NC. | | Earth Day is on Monday, April 22, but Self-Help CU will celebrate in a variety of ways throughout the entire month.
