Deadline Sept 1 NC IDEA is accepting applications for NC IDEA Micro and NC IDEA Seed. Deadline Sep 9 USDA Food and Nutrition Services is requesting applications for the Participation Assistance for Farmers and Farmers' Markets Grants (increasing SNAP participation at markets). Deadline Sep 13 EPA invites communities to apply to the Local Foods, Local Places technical assistance program. Deadline Sep 30 USDA FSA Organic Certification Cost Share Program is accepting applications. Deadline Oct 31 Back to top EVENTS & ACTIONS Action! New proposed rule would affect 3 million people with SNAP benefits. Broad-based categorical eligibility is a provision that enables qualifying Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) households to automatically qualify for SNAP. The new USDA proposal attempts to limit states' ability to decide the eligibility criteria for TANF. Read more here. Submit a comment to USDA here. Congress is currently considering the Child Nutrition Act Reauthorization (CNR), which provides opportunity to open new markets for local food in schools. Two bipartisan bills supporting farm to school work have been introduced for the inclusion in the CNR: The Farm to School Act of 2019 and the Kids Eat Local Act.
